Aquaculture Reports • Elsevier • 2025
Cage aquaculture in the Winam Gulf and riparian waters of Lake Victoria provides vital protein and employment. This study evaluates nutrient dispersion modeling, benthos sedimentation, and economic viability of smallholder floating cages.
Dr. Beatrice A. Kwamboka, Prof. Stephen M. Kimani
Journal of Cleaner Production • Elsevier • 2025
Post-harvest burning of sugarcane bagasse and banana pseudostems contributes significantly to regional air emissions. This investigation developed thermo-compressed biodegradable biocomposites using extracted cellulose fibers bonded with natural cassava starch.
Eng. Patrick M. Ochola, Dr. Everlyn K. Nyanchama
ACM Conference on Computing and Sustainable Societies (COMPASS 2025) • ACM Digital Library • 2025
Deployment of quantized MobileNet models on low-cost smartphones enabling offline diagnosis of maize lethal necrosis, potato late blight, and cassava mosaic disease with 94.2% top-1 accuracy.
Dr. Geoffrey M. Ondieki, Prof. Joseph N. Mogaka
African Journal of Agricultural Research • Academic Journals • 2025
Bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum remains the most devastating soil-borne disease affecting Solanum tuberosum in the high-altitude potato belts of Kisii and Nyamira. This study evaluated the biocontrol efficacy of indigenous microorganisms (IMO) formulated with farmyard vermicompost and Trichoderma harzianum inoculants. Controlled randomized complete block field trials demonstrated a 68% reduction in wilt incidence and a 42% increase in marketable tuber yields over untreated controls.
Prof. Joseph N. Mogaka, Eng. Patrick M. Ochola
Agricultural Water Management • Elsevier • 2025
Field optimization of automated sensor-based micro-drip irrigation schedules in semi-arid lowland horticultural production in South Western Kenya. The study demonstrated a 38% reduction in aggregate water volume while increasing tomato and capsicum yields by 29%.
Eng. Patrick M. Ochola, Dr. Geoffrey M. Ondieki
IEEE International Conference on Smart Agriculture and Environmental Sensing (ICSAES 2025) • IEEE Xplore • 2025
Precision farming technologies remain cost-prohibitive for smallholder growers. We present the design, firmware calibration, and field validation of a solar-powered capacitive soil moisture and NPK electro-conductivity probe operating over LoRaWAN.
